Maintenance Pack for the Carenado C337H Skymaster

$

Hi!

My upload of the Maintenance Pack for the Carenado C337H Skymaster has been accepted and is now available in the AVSIM Library.

It currently includes the following modifications:

Cessna337_1_C.bmp, Cessna337_1_C_night.bmp:
The label for the landing light switch is changed from "LOG" to "LDG".

Cessna337_3_C_night.bmp:
The labels for the Prop Synchrophaser were displayed twice with a
small offset when the panel light was enabled. The modification
corrects this and adds illumination for the label "Phasing".

Gauges_337B.bmp, Gauges_337B_night.bmp:
The right Collins gauge (NAV2) is now correctly labeled "Nav" instead
of "Comm". Thanks to Bert Pieké for the inspiration by providing an
earlier fix. I recreated his fix from scratch and added improved night
  lighting.

Gauges_337BXP.bmp, Gauges_337BXP_night.bmp:
Same as above modification for the right Collins gauge, but with
textures for the Reality XP GNS.

Please download the file and look at the included README.txt for installation instructions. Or you can use the ZipDive feature of the AVSIM Library to read it before downloading, or to view some before and after screenshots like this one:

OObReO2.jpg

Some background information:

I used DXTbmp to extract the bitmaps from the files I wanted to modify into a file named norm.bmp, then I used Gimp to edit them.

When exporting them from Gimp as norm.bmp again, I had to select "Do not write color space information" in the "Compatibility Options", and "24 bits: R8 G8 B8" in the "Advanced Options".

After reloading norm.bmp in DXTbmp, I had to disable "Include when saving" in the MipMaps box before saving them.

I hope this will bring you some additional joy when flying this already nice aircraft.

Regards,

Thomas

Help! Can't install new purchase of C152 II

$

Hello,

I just recently purchased Carenado's C152 II or FSX because I want to use it as I follow through the Aviator 90 Angle of Attack flight instruction series.  I currently have FSX Steam Edition installed on my machine (I got rid of my boxed version install).  I did this because I read a number of forums saying that there is no problem installing Carenado airplanes designed for FSX in FSX:SE.

I downloaded the installer after purchase, and when I double-click on the installer, I immediately get a red-X error saying that FSX is not installed.  That's it.  There's nothing I can adjust or change - seems to be pretty binary - either it recognizes some FSX installation or it doesn't, and that's that.  There's no way to set the install path for it. I have no idea how to get around this, since there's nothing to change in the installer.  It fails and closes as soon as it determines you don't have some FSX installation in it's required path.

Please help - is there any way around this?  I just spent $27 on this aircraft and I'm frustrated that I can't use it due to Carenado's "lazy" installer system.  I really don't want to have to create a dual-install of the boxed edition just to be able to use this aircraft.  That seems a bit silly.

Has anyone found a way to install the C152 II for FSX:SE, or am I just simply out of luck?  It appears Carenado's support site says they are working on FSX steam support but currently can't support at this time. So shame on me I guess for buying a product before ensuring 100% that it works?

Thanks,

Josh

Trim Question

Hi all, I have the Carenado C208EX and I love it but I have some questions:

When I set the trim to say, 500fpm descent, the aircraft doesn't stay at this rate.  I am used to it deviating slightly up or down but in the 208 it goes anywhere down to -1500 and up to +1000 all from a -500 trim.  Same for level flight.

Now, is this normal and caused by my weather engine (active sky next) or am I doing something wrong with this particular aircraft?  Im mainly used to flying C172 and PA-28's and I don't get this issue.

Also in the C208, when using the throttle to control pitch when trimmed, the response seems VERY slow.  For example I lower throttle to 75% to kill some climb but it takes around 5 seconds for anything to happen.  Again, not sure if this is realistic for the 208 or not?

Thanks for any insight!

[X-Plane 10.50 beta 5] Cannot change FOV on Carenado 182 skylane

I have the 182 Skylane g1000 for X-Plane, and I tried to change the FOV from 80, which is the default and the sliders won't stick, it keeps jumping back to 80. So I try to go to X-Plane's rendering settings menu to change it there, and it also won't let me. Any ideas why I cannot change the FOV?

I'm only experiencing this issue with this plane, other planes like the 777 or default planes have no issues whatsoever.

PA44 seminole install errors

Left a message over at the carenado support forum, but looks like they are a little snowed under.

I get this error about 'Error opening file for writing' have tried admin rights, changing folder perms. anyone come across it?

Carenado support ticket comment. (Purchased the new PA44 seminole yesterday and went to install it on my win8.1 machine using P3dV3. After selecting the p3dv3 install directory i had a few error screens pop up saying 'Error opening file for writing' with a font directory first and then a heap of others. Any suggestions on how to rectify this?)

Can't believe I'm going to ask this but...

I've been seriously thinking about getting Air Hauler 2 lately after watching a lot of videos of it on YouTube.  That being said, I'd like to find a GA aircraft to use in it that meets a criteria that none of the other GA planes that I have quite meet for some reason or another.  That means that the usual high quality GA products(RealAir, A2A, etc) that are out there don't match 100% for me personally for one goofy reason or another.

The RealAir Dukes make it way to hard to see anything outside the window as all you can see are the engines and also aren't the usual type of plane flown for the kind of company I'd like to create/simulate in AH2(a small commuter type airline).  The A2A stuff require too much hand flying for what I'm after.  I know, sorry for that but I like to make use of autopilots and don't feel the need to prove I can hand fly every part of the flight.

So, that has led me to the ask the question, are there any Carenado aircraft that work close to the way the real thing should work(with mods if need be)?  In particular, the one I think I really would like is the PC12.  But, I'm also considering the Chieftian, Navajo or C90 even.  It would be really nice if the GTN750 can be incorporated.  And also, I'm running P3Dv3.3.  Is it possible?  Can one of these Carenado planes actually work very close(if not all the way) to how the real thing works?  This probably mostly is directed at their autopilots/FMC(in the C90's case) as I think that would be where most of the bugs that would annoy me seem to be.  However, it would of course be nice that the switches do as they should, startup procedure is as close to real and lights function the way one would expect.

For the PC12, can it be installed into P3Dv3.3?  From what I've seen around the web, I think so but it would be nice to get confirmation first.

Maybe my expectations are too high?  I know, I'm sorry for my very pessimistic tone here but, as you can tell, I don't have a very high opinion of these guys.  However, for what I'm looking for, they are the only ones out there and I'm left with no other choice.  So please try not to get too mad at me for voicing it this way, but I think too, they have sort of brought this on themselves.

Thanks to anyone that can help me out(despite the pessimism).  :)

A few oddities and a feature request

Win 7 64bit, XPlane 10.45, Mooney 3.2 (applies to 2.1 too), before and after a complete Win+XP fresh install.

1:

Is there no speedlimit for gear and flap extraction or doesn't it work in my case? I can speed up to the yellow arch and operate them and I get no failures, they work visually and they also do their job while landing after the testflight. If I fly wildly (without flaps and gear), I get structure over-g (or something like that) and the plane breaks so obviously it knows when to give up - at least on that case. Also the settings in X-Plane should be ok because for example the stock Cessna fails the flaps if overspeeding.

2:
The autopilot ALT, I don't get it. If I press ALT, maybe once in 20 tries I get the current altitude on the AP display and it will hold it (that's the way I understand it should work). Usually the ALT button just lights up and and I can more or less keep the altitude by setting v/s to 000, yet it doesn't hold the altitude as accurately as when it does when I get the correct alitude reading in the AP display. Something wrong with it or is it just me? Doesn't matter if I press AP+ALT or only ALT (which also lights up the AP).

3:

The feature request. From what I've read, many Mooneys have speedbrakes installed, maybe we could have some too?

Other than these things, I think it's the best thing for me at this time. Learned the basics with the stock Cessna, now I've had the Mooney for a few months and the PC-12 will be up next when I think I've done with this.

Collins Questions

Hey there.

Normally I can figure things out on my own, but this one is stumping me.  Getting into some of the fancier glass cockpits after spending several iterations of flight sims using older, analogue based cockpits from Carenado.  I've got myself the King Air 90 for Pr3pared.  Neat plane.  Always attracted to the Beechcraft lineup.

Question is, how do you get the airspace border to popup on the moving map?  I do a LOT of VFR travel on VATSIM.  Especially when ATC is staffed.  I know it seems counterproductive, but I like to play the system to best of my ability, and that involves hopping in and around airspace borders and ceilings/floors.  It's fun picking your way through congested airspace knowing some APP controller is probably watching you to see if you bust some of the airspace your coming tantalizing close to.  Good times.

The default GPS, despite it's obvious shortcomings was good at one thing.  A nice visual of the airspace borders.  That, combined with a VFR sectional, got you where you needed to go with little effort.  Now, I could get by without the borders, and just spend more time plotting a route rather going with the flow, but I figured I'd ask anyways.

Much thanks!

Constant rpm -- When adjusting propeller governor..?

Hello Captain,,

I've read all topic inside "grand caravan for FSX" folder, but still didn't get answer. Would you happen please help me to share knowledge about flying caravan in real world and in FSX.

I have seen many video on youtube regarding this plane (T/O, landing, climbing, descent, start engine, etc), why they keep propeller governor on high rpm almost all the time..?? When start engine, I'm already know why it should put on high/Max.

If so, when did pilot adjusting propeller governor..??

I never fly this airplane in real world. But, I always pretend flying in FSX as in real world. Meaning, there is passenger behind me. Turbine rpm on 95% limited to 3~5mins (inertial separator = bypass) to avoid tear and wear on engine.

So, when I just reach my cruise altitude, I then put turbine rpm down to 83~85% and prop governor down to 50%. This will reduce noise came from engine into cabin passenger. Increase fuel efficiency while keep maintain same airspeed (110~120kts).

Captain...!  B)   Please share Ur knowledge with me....

Thanks & Regard.

Top 5 Carenado/Alabeo Props

I have purchased very few Carenado/Alabeo aircraft over the past two years.  But reading here and there, it sounds like Carenado have stepped up their game with more accurate flight modelling and systems support

What are your top 5 prop aircraft from the Carenado/Alabeo stable in this regard?

Adding Gauges/Avionics: How do Masks Work? Are they a part of the MDL or bitmap?

$

After doing some forum surfing, I know that the Cessna 172N has 3D knobs, and that makes tearing out and replacing the radio stack problematic. This is not a major problem, since I actually like the Cessna NAV/COMs, ADF, and Garmin transponder. It's all appropriate for this particular A/C (though I am looking for black versions to complement Bill's panel repaint... I know that black models were manufactured IRL). I don't want to shove in a GPS, autopilot, or anything crazy like that.

I am, however interested to know whether additional (likely 2D) avionics can be added in the free space below the stack. Namely, right below the transponder (see pic). Namely, I would like this to become a real /A instrument trainer, and that means I need DME. I have already added a DAVTRON chronometer and a VOR gauge with glideslope. Would it be at all possible to fit in a King DME unit in the VC? I tried it with the default King DME, but it only partially shows up, and I'm guessing it's a mask issue whereby the mask is covering up most of the avionic image.

I guess the real question is whether the mask is part of the model, or contained in a BMP file somewhere? If it's the model, I'm pretty sure I'm screwed. But if it's some color thing in a BMP file, or even a config file, I might have some room to play.

As an aside, I'm also asking if anybody has done black radios for the Cessna 172, and where to get them.

Thanks.

CARENADO DO288 HD SERIES FSX/P3D

Carenado/Alabeo ailerons hyper sensitive.

Hi,

I currently have a Saitek x52pro, and P3D v3.2.

My problem:

My rudder and pitch axis work flawlessly.  However when I try to roll, for the first 80% of joystick movement the yoke moves a minuscule amount, and for the remaining 20%, the yoke leaps to full left and right.

I have this problem on ALL carenado and Alabeo products and I have found no solution yet, it is quite frustrating. I think the problem only started when I got my X52, this does not make sense as all other aircraft work fine with it (PMDG, A2A, aerosoft.) I have tried re calibrating it is P3D, but this does nothing.

I have null zones and sensitivity set to min, and max, respectively.

Any help is appreciated,

Lewis.
